。。Concept of Value

The difference of Concept of Value

I met with a japanese NGO's members and they wish to offer the office appliances and study appliances to the school in rural area of Cambodia. I was so happy for their kindness. Of course, it is not easy to bring those appliaces because it costs much for shipping cost and tax or expense for cambodia custom and so on. But it is their kindness that we must not refuse.
So, I talk to my high school's director. He said "of course, we lack alot. We need such office appliances in our school. That's great. But if they want to send us the appliances, they'd better send us money because we can buy those stuffs here with less money".
Yeah, it is logically right. But to be honest, I feel so disappointed with this idea. For him, those appliances is worth nothing other than things. The appliances can be exchanged with money. This is his concept of value toward the donnation. But for the japanese partners, the appliances is not worth only the monetary value. There is a strong bond between japanese people and cambodian people hiding in those appliances. You offer to help someone because you feel sympathy or friendship with him/her. You never offer to anything to people you hate. So there is more value than those old appliances than their monetary value. And the value worth so much that you cannot buy by money.
The difference between both side result in the lack of the appliances in the school. The director loses nothing, but the school loses the appliances. Moreover, the worst result is that we lost an opportunity to link japanese and cambodian.
What a sad ending!
